Please note that this distribution is provided for experimental/development purposes only and is not recommended for use in a production environment.

XAMPP for WindowsApache Friends) bundles Apache, PHP, and MySQL in to one easy to install package. We've borrowed XAMPP's USB Lite 1.7.7 package and integrated a fully-installed and ready to use Onpub 1.2.5 within.

This package is designed for Windows users who want to get started with Onpub as quickly as possible, without having to bother with installing and configuring any other software prerequisites. This package includes everything you need to start publishing a website with Onpub running on Windows.

The stand-alone Onpub package will always continue to be available for those on other operating systems, or for those who already have a working web server and database set up.

Click the download link above and then follow the instructions below to get started:

  1. Download and install 7-Zip. 7-Zip is required to extract the package file you downloaded above.
  2. Right-click on the onpub-1.2.5-w-xampp-win32-1.7.7-usb-lite.7z file and select the "Extract files..." option from the 7-Zip context menu.
  3. Extract the file directly to the root of your C:\ drive. This will result in a new folder called C:\xampp.
  4. Within C:\xampp double-click on the xampp-control.exe file to start up the XAMPP Control Panel Application.
  5. Within the XAMPP Control Panel Application click the Start button for both Apache and MySql.

After performing the steps above, the XAMPP Control Panel should display "Running" beside both Apache and MySql.

Note: if you use a 64-bit version of Windows and you are having problems getting Apache to start, make sure that you have the 32-bit version of the Visual C++ Libraries installed on your system. If you do not have this package on your system, downloaded the installer here: https://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=29

You should now be able to login to Onpub to publish your first website. Now click the following link to load Onpub in your web browser:

http://localhost/onpub/

You should see the Onpub frontend Welcome page. Click on the "Create a website" link to get started. You will then be prompted to login to the Onpub content management interface.

Enter in the following default login info:

Username: root
Password: leave this blank

Click the Login button and then Connect to the test database. Click the Create a website link and fill in the name of your new website and click Save. Now go back to the frontend index page and reload it. You will see that the frontend now displays the name of the new site you just created in the management interface. Now go ahead and start creating other types of content like Articles and Sections and they will automatically be published to your Onpub frontend. Just reload and go.
